I left Stockholm in 1995 and came here to study. I spent five years training to become a scientist, but halfway through my PhD at Oxford I realised there was more to life than being stuck in a lab, so I left all that in 2001.
I was born in Valparaiso, Chile a while ago and grew up 8,000 miles from there in Stockholm, Sweden.
I started going to Power yoga classes in my local gym in 2001 and found it was a really good complement to my other types of training. But no matter how hard I trained in the gym, it was the yoga that really challenged me - everything was so hard and required strength and stamina, apart from flexibility. And it left me with a feeling of lightness and vitality. Needless to say, I was hooked on it instantly!
I've always been a very active person and don't see myself sitting in front of a computer all my working life!
It was an amazing experience, you learn so much! The Introductory Certificate is a very challenging course, and I look forward to starting the Junior Intermediate course in 2009.
Yes, you can study towards four certificates: Introductory, Junior Intermediate, Senior Intermediate and Advanced. Reaching the higher certificates is very difficult and requires total comittment over a life time. Iyengar teachers are the most highly trained yoga teachers in the world, and I'm very happy and proud to be one.
I try to be pure to what I've been taught and teach from my own understanding of yoga. I keep things simple and uncomplicated, and challenge my students to push into new boundaries in a safe and progressive way.
